Consumed by Java.

At this moment in time I am in the pits of the stomach of a beast called Java. I have been in here for some time now and I’m soon to be passing through its gastrointestinal tract, after which I will be quite relieved. It is inevitable that I will be passing through the digestive system of something else shortly afterwards, but I am thinking about the glorious few days where I will be breathing fresh real world air as a welcomed substitute to Java air.

Java is an object oriented programming language, which means that software objects are used to model real world objects. This means that one has to constantly work with objects in mind and has to view pretty much everything in the Java world as an object, much to the chagrin of the Java women.

I just tackled that programming language a few months ago. The guy could yap and yap about it on the screen, talking about this and that and I’d learn and understand not a thing.

But when I finally sit down and look at the code, I can actually work with it. Java is cool and very flexible. Too bad I’m not going to be working with it for the rest of my apprenticeship.. *sighs and plays with sql and pl/sql*

Ah, there was a time when SQL and PL/SQL were my life but now my life belongs to Java and it looks like that will not change for a while. I was chatting with a friend of mine about it and he was explaining how vast it is. It seems that mastering Java would require the same amount of years as mastering the piano (i.e. a lifetime). We also touched on how nice it would be to have a Java degree invented, because there’s definitely enough material to last a few years. There’s a real lack of proper programmers at the moment too. Most people nowadays are learning networks and the ones that did computer science at Uni aren’t exactly taught to be proficient at it. They’re mainly taught theories and concepts but not applications.

But PL/SQL is nice to work with after you’ve pulled all your hair out. Hope it’ll keep you stimulated for what’s left of your apprenticeship ^_^
